Marching Band Awards Night and Lock-in a Success!

November 25, 2009
Friday the 20th of November was the annual Marching Band awards night and Lock-In. Following the fabulous pizza supper provided by the Underwood Music Boosters we began the night's festivities with the awards ceremony.
Section Leader awards were given out to the following members: Dan Darnold (Trumpet), Michelle Larsen (Clarinet), Katelyn Larsen (Flute), Anna Schwery and Jordan Nath (Flags), Matt Konsor (Low Brass), Adam Snyder (Saxophone/Horns), Clarissa Adams (Drumline). Section leaders handed out sentimental gifts to each member of their section as they are called up to the stage for recognition.
Special awards were given to the following students:
Most Improved Flag - Rachelle Tweed
Most Improved Instrumentalist - Taylor Curtis
Outstanding Section of the Year - Trumpets
Overall Outstanding Member of the Year - Katelyn Larsen
The awards banquet was quickly followed up by the tournament of champions. The opening competition was the dodge ball tournament. Dominick Myers led the "Wrestlers", an all freshman team, to an undefeated road to the championship match where they faced off against the Matt Konsor led "Finger Licking Good" team. It was an exciting double elimination match but in the end experience won out and F.L.G. was too much for the freshman. The dodge ball tournament was followed by a number of good old fashioned relay races including the crab walk, wheel barrow, life-saver, grapefruit love, basketball, log roll and many others. The "Junior + Carly" team lead by Sierra Wilson made a move during the relay races and jockeyed for position with "Those People," "Super Bad," and the "Soul Reapers." The frozen egg toss was next and as usual ended by getting egg on the faces of the losers. The final challenge was the scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt is a test of brain, brawn, and stomach. In order to complete the hunt teams were forced to eat jars of pickles, bags of marshmallows and search for golf balls in sinks full of dirty dishes using only their mouths. The top three teams of the tournament of champions were: 1st place "Finger Licking Good," captain Matt Konsor, 2nd place Juniors + Carly," captain Sierra Wilson. 3rd place "Soul Reapers," captain Mitch McKinney. A great time was had by all and the marching band is already looking forward to next years lock-in.
I would like to thank the music boosters for providing the pizza and drinks and helping out with the awards. A special thanks to Lori Stubbs, Kate and Eric Rollins for helping serve as well as picking up and delivering the pizzas. I also want to thank Eric Rodgers for chaperoning, Ron and Donna Reed for all their help in setting and cleaning up, Mrs. Ruggles for her vast knowledge of ice, freezers, and dixie cups, and the high school staff for allowing us to use the academic wing for the scavenger hunt and the gym for the dodge ball tournament and relay races.
Thanks for another great Lock-In!
