High School: Language Arts

Meet Mrs. Larsen

by Julie Larsen

August 24, 2009

My name is Julie Larsen, and I am an English teacher at Underwood High School.  This is my twenty-third year here.  This year I am teaching Senior English, English Literature, Public Speaking, Literature, Composition, and Drama/Stagecraft.

I grew up in the Underwood area.  I actually started my schooling in Bentley; we moved into the "new" elementary school when I was in 4th grade.  I graduated from Underwood High School and went on to college at Iowa State University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Education.  After college, I taught high school English at Lynnville-Sully in Sully, Iowa.  My husband and I moved back to the Underwood area in 1982, and I began teaching at Underwood in 1987.

My husband, Gary, is a farmer, and we have two children, Brenna and Bret.  All are graduates of Underwood High School.  Both Brenna and Bret currently live in Des Moines, Iowa, where Brenna is an accountant for Pioneer Hi-Bred International and Bret teaches 8th grade reading in the Saydel school district.
